I grew up in the greater Philadelphia area.  After completing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Messiah College in central Pennsylvania, I returned to Philadelphia and there I attended Temple University, earning a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology.  I also began my teaching career at Temple.

I then moved to Seattle to pursue a Masters of Divinity degree at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology (then Mars Hill Graduate School).  I opened a private practice, I got licensed as a mental health counselor, and I became an approved supervisor in the state of Washington.

Having taught for the Seattle Campus of Argosy University since 2003, I then became a student of Argosy, enrolling in the Pastoral Community Counseling doctoral program.  A good bit of the research nestled within this site is tethered to or furthers my doctoral studies, including an open research project wherein I examine the relational experiences of men in positions of spiritual authority. After finishing my dissertation in the summer of 2016, I was then hired on as core faculty in the Counseling Program at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology.  In 2017 I became practicum director at The Seattle School, which pairs nicely with one of my areas of research: the potential difference(s) in compassion and empathy in counselor education and praxis.

I am a husband to Laura Wade, and a father to three boys: Noah, Luke, and Eli.  My family keeps me honest, and they invite me to engagement.  My calling in life is to be full and receptive.
